The Geriatric & Extended Care Service at the West Palm Beach VAMC is composed of:
Extended Care Facility: This is a state of the art 120 bed unit where patients are assigned Short Stay or Long stay units based on their need. The patients may be admitted to the short stay units for needs like Rehabilitation, Wound care and IV antibiotics. The patients requiring long stay may need skilled nursing and maintenance care while awaiting community placement.
Palliative Care Program: The palliative care program consists of a Palliative care consult team that provides counseling, support and direct care to our dying veterans who opt for these services as an inpatient at the VA. This program also coordinates hospice care through non VA source
