West Palm Beach, Fla. – Nine months ago, U.S. Army Veteran Sherri Lipson opened an email that would change her life.

As a pre-diabetic who was also on medication to control her high blood pressure, Lipson wanted to lead a healthier lifestyle. She just didn’t know where to begin until she discovered VA’s MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans.

“I received an e-mail from the VA about the MOVE! Program and decided to try it,” Lipson explained. “I lost six pounds in the first week!”

After her first 12 sessions at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center, Lipson was hooked. By the end of week 12 she had lost a total of 30 pounds.

For Lipson, this was the turning point in her health and weight loss journey.

She was so motivated by her results that she rejoined for another round of the program. To date, she has lost a total of 70 pounds.

“I look at food differently now and I know how to factor in the number of calories, carbohydrates, etc. that I need for the day,” said Lipson. “I’m making more sound choices for both weight loss and good health.”

Since losing the weight, Lipson’s medical provider has reduced her blood pressure medication and she is no longer considered pre-diabetic.

She credits the “wonderful nutritionists” Marie Etienne, outpatient clinical nutrition supervisor and Lori Drummond, dietitian as part of the reason for her success. Etienne hopes that Lipson’s inspiring story will encourage other female Veterans to try the MOVE! program.

“It has been really rewarding to witness Ms. Lipson’s dedication to accomplish her health goals with the MOVE! program,” said Etienne. “Her story is proof that better health is within reach if you’re willing to put in the work.”

Lipson says her experience has been truly motivating and she encourages all Veterans to try it. “Honestly this is the very best weight loss program around and I feel great! If you feel the need to improve your life and get that healthy body---MOVE!”

The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center offers morning, afternoon and evening MOVE! Weight Management classes for Veterans in-person or remotely via telehealth. For more information about the program call 561-422-6267.
