West Palm Beach VA Medical Center to Close Clinics Due to Hurricane Dorian - The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center and outlying clinics will be closed on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. The Vet Centers in Jupiter and Greenacres will also be closed. The rural clinics in Clewiston and Moore Haven will be closed through the remainder of next week. VA staff will be contacting all those with appointments to reschedule. Please note that the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center is not a designated emergency shelter. All those seeking shelter info are asked to contact their respective counties for more information. (08/30/2019)

West Palm Beach VA Recognized as Healthcare Equality Leader - The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center has been designated as a “2019 LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Leader” by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC). The designation will be awarded in the forthcoming Healthcare Equality Index 2019, which will be released at the end of July. (07/17/2019)

Open House for Women’s Health Week - The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center will host a Women's Clinic Open House on Saturday, May 18, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event is being hosted for women who served in the military. During the event, women can enjoy refreshments, enroll in VA health care and learn about the wide range of primary care and specialty services available. (05/07/2019)

VA to Hold Awareness Walk Benefitting Homeless Veterans - The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center will host its annual VA2K Walk and Roll event on Wednesday, May 15 at 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The event will begin at the Fisher House which is located on the corner of Freedom Way and Independence Avenue on the medical center grounds. The VA2K is a nationwide event that encourages community health and wellness while also supporting homeless Veterans through collection of donations. (05/06/2019)

Veterans Urged to Update Permanent Addresses - The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) encourages all Veterans to update their permanent addresses with the agency. Doing so will help VA ensure that VA health care related items (lab tests, prescriptions, etc.), disability compensation, pension benefits and more are going to the correct address. (05/06/2019)

National Salute Week 2019 - The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has marked National Salute to Veteran Patients week, February 10-16, 2019. The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center will host events all week to pay tribute and express appreciation to Veterans; increase community awareness of the role of the VA medical center; and encourage citizens to become involved as volunteers at VA. Lois Pope Honored by VA Medical Center for Her Sponsorship of National Day of Honor Event - On Jan. 16, 2019 the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center presented esteemed philanthropist and champion of disabled Veterans rights, Lois Pope, with an award of appreciation for her sponsorship of the National Day of Honor for America Veterans Disabled for Life event on October 5, 2018. The event was the very first of its kind held at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center to honor disabled Veterans. (01/22/2019)

West Palm VA Welcomes New Associate Director - The Department of Veterans Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of Cynthia O’Connell as the new associate director of the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center. O’Connell began her role in December 2018 and is responsible for the oversight of hospital operational services to include fiscal, facilities management, medical administration, nutrition and food, police, and pharmacy services. O’Connell is a retired Brigadier General who is joining the Medical Center after serving more than 35 years in the United States Army. (01/02/2019)

Veterans Month 2018 - To honor the service and sacrifice of our nation's Veterans and in recognition of Veterans and Military Families Month the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center will host several events throughout the month of November. “Our vision at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center is to earn our Veterans trust by delivering compassionate and quality care,” said Medical Center Director Donna Katen-Bahensky. “In tandem with that vision we want to ensure that Veterans see our facility as their place – one they can call home and feel welcome. Our goal this month is to celebrate their service and provide resources for them and their loved ones.” (11/02/2018)

VA's Mammography Department Receives a Perfect Score - The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center has earned a perfect score on its recent annual inspection from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its mammography program. The areas surveyed by the FDA inspector include but are not limited to medical records, quality assurance, medical audit and outcome analysis, staff education and credentialing and quality control. This year was the fifth year in a row that the medical center has received a perfect score in all areas surveyed. (09/20/2018)

West Palm Beach VA Named LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Leader - The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center has been designated as a “LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Leader” by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC). The designation was awarded in the 11th edition of the Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), released recently. West Palm Beach VA to Offer Valet Parking - The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center will soon offer complimentary valet parking to all Veterans who are visiting the medical center for their appointments. The service is slated to begin on Monday, November 13, 2017. (11/08/2017)

West Palm Beach VA Closes Outpatient Clinics Due to Irma - As Hurricane Irma’s path is projected to move toward the South Florida area, the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center will close outpatient operations at its main facility from Friday, September 8 through Monday, September 11, 2017. All CBOCs will also be closed through these dates. (09/07/2017)

Veterans Town Hall Sept. 7th - – On Thursday, September 7, 2017 the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center will hold a Town Hall and Assistance Fair for Veterans on the 4th floor of the medical center’s main building. The Town Hall will begin at 5:00 PM in Room 4B-292 and the Assistance Fair will run from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Room 4B 116/117. The event is an opportunity for area Veterans to come and learn about the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center; obtain information on programs; receive assistance with enrollment and benefits; and provide feedback to the medical center director and senior leadership. West Palm Beach VA to Host Career Fair - The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center will host a Career and Resource Fair for Veterans and their families on Saturday, June 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The career fair will be held in the Main Atrium which can be directly accessed from the East Entrance of the facility. This event will allow attendees looking for federal jobs to meet with VA managers and human resources professionals, regarding opportunities in such areas as medical administration services, nursing and environmental management services. Event attendees will also have an opportunity to meet and interview with private sector and local government hiring officials. (05/25/2017)

West Palm Beach to Host 2017 VA2K Walk and Roll Event - The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center will host its annual VA2K Walk and Roll event on Wednesday May 17, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The VA2K will begin at the Fisher House which is located on the corner of Freedom Way and Independence Avenue on the medical center grounds. This 1.2 mile walking (or rolling) event is free and open to the general public. (05/09/2017)

WPB to Host Event Honoring Sexual Assault Survivors - April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) and this year, VA’s national theme for SAAM is "Standing Together to Empower Military Sexual Trauma Survivors.” The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center invites Veterans, local media and members of the community to join us for the Clothesline Project event to recognize and bring awareness to this very important issue. The event takes place on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the facility’s main Atrium. Each year, the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center hosts the Clothesline Project Event in honor of SAAM and those who are victims of sexual assault and Military Sexual Trauma. (04/03/2017)

West Palm Beach VA to Open New MRI Suite - The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center will hold a ribbon cutting to commemorate the opening of it's new MRI Suite on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 1:00 pm. The new 6,168 sq. foot suite will feature a modern design, patient centered layout and state-of-the-art equipment to include two new MRI machines – a 1.5T Siemens and 3T Siemens. (03/16/2017)

New Director Named for West Palm Beach VA - West Palm Beach VA Medical Center's new director, Donna Katen-Bahensky brings to VA more than 30 years of experience in the health care field where she held progressive leadership positions at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Virginia Commonwealth University Health System, and University of Nebraska Medical Center. Most recently, she served as President and Chief Executive Officer of University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, Madison, Wisconsin, one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers consisting of the University Hospital (over 600 beds), a Children’s Hospital, an NCI-designated cancer center, Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma and burn centers and a 220,0000 member insurance plan.
