Mental Health Outpatient Needs
Mental Health Clinic
Psychiatrists and psychotherapists (including clinical psychologists, clinical social workers, and clinical nurse specialists) are available in the outpatient Mental Health Clinic. he WPB VA offers medication management and various types of counseling depending on your mental health needs. Evening hours for outpatient mental health care are available by appointment only. There are specialty clinics for substance abuse and post trauma counseling. Please call 561-422-8234 for scheduling.
Rehabilitation and Recovery (Day Treatment)
Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (Day Treatment) is a treatment program for psychiatrically impaired Veterans in order to improve or maintain their level of functioning in the community and decrease the need for future hospitalizations. This is done through individual and group therapy, coping skills training, and leisure and recreational activities. Veterans must be referred by a mental health provider. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (Northern Counties)
PTSD Clinical Team (PCT) is the St. Lucie County Post-traumatic Stress Disorder Clinical Team Outpatient Program. This is a specialized treatment program for Veterans who are having difficulty coping with the effects of having experienced combat or sexual trauma while in the military. Services include group and individual therapy, medication management, and family education, counseling, and support. Topics of study include stress management, communication skills, anger management, improving sleep patterns and habits, and coping with triggers. For more information call 772-878-7876. Mental Health Intensive Case Management
Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM) provides non-traditional, intensive case management and treatment to Veterans with severe mental illness in coordination with community services. Areas of assistance include housing and caring for the home, budgeting, managing medications, identifying community resources, keeping track of appointments, personal hygiene care, and purposeful activities such as volunteering or work. Services are provided by a multidisciplinary team. For more information call 561-422-7585.
Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) are VA-contracted outpatient clinics located in various communities that are a significant distance from the main Medical Center. In addition to primary care medical services, mental health services are also available at the CBOCs. There is a VA psychiatrist and VA psychologist assigned to each of the CBOCs. These providers are available to provide mental health consultation and treatment both in person and by way of tele-health (video conferencing). Each of the CBOCs also has a clinical social worker on staff who is available to provide mental health services. Mental health services available include medication management, individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy. The West Palm Beach VAMC contracts the following CBOCs:
